Workers - residence rights – Germany

EU citizens and their families do not need to carry a valid ID or passport at all times during their stay in Germany.

However, they must have an identification document and must present it to the relevant authorities upon request.

Current law requires EU citizens and their family members to carry a valid passport or ID with them when entering and exiting Germany (Article 8 paragraph 1 of the Freedom of Movement Act/EU).
