Buying a house

Right to buy property

As an EU citizen, you have a right to live in any other EU country and you have the same rights as citizens of that country when it comes to buying or selling a property. These rights apply to homes used as a primary residence, second (or holiday) homes, and office properties.

Protection

If something goes wrong, and you feel your consumer rights have not been respected, there are various means of redress. Read about your rights as a consumer and the different ways to get help.

Tax

If you want to get a mortgage to finance your property purchase, you may need to have a tax number issued by that country in order to enter into a loan agreement with a bank. Read more about mortgages in the EU.

For more information, check the national website of the country where you wish to buy.
