Death and repatriation

If a family member or someone close to you dies in another EU country, whether they are registered there or not, certain formalities must be carried out before their remains can be returned to their home country (known as repatriation) for burial or cremation. Each EU country applies its own specific rules for reporting and registering a death as well as for the repatriation of remains to another EU country.
