The right to vote

To be able to vote in European elections, EU citizens need to register on the electoral roll in the municipal administration of their place of residence. The deadline to register is 87 days before the elections. You can register online.

To be eligible to vote in European elections you must:

Voting in European elections is compulsory for everybody on the electoral roll.

It is possible to vote per post.

When you leave Luxembourg, you will be automatically deregistered from your commune of residence.

If voting is compulsory for everybody on the electoral roll, and you don't vote, you could incur sanctions: 8-15 days of prison and/or €251- €2000 ​fine.
