Expired or lost passports – Luxembourg
Whilst you should avoid travelling with expired documents, if you are a national of Luxembourg you may travel on an expired passport to or from countries that have signed and ratified the Council of Europe Convention as long as the passport has not been expired for more than 5 years. However, you will also need to have one of the documents listed below:
- Official identity card
- Identity and travel papers issued to a child of under 15 years of age by a Luxembourg local authority
- Valid alien's identity card, issued by the competent authorities of the country of residence, for nationals of Luxembourg residing in Belgium, France, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, stating that the holder is of Luxembourg nationality.
If you are a national of another EU country which has signed and ratified the Council of Europe Convention, you may travel to Luxembourg as long as you have one of the documents listed under your country in the annex to the Convention
Before you travel, you should make sure your passport is valid for all the countries you will visit. Some countries only issue entry visas to people whose passport will remain valid for at least 6 months after the visa expires.
