Home country elections – Hungary
Affected by Brexit?
Hungarian nationals living abroad who also have a residential address in Hungary can vote on the same terms as Hungarians living in Hungary. They can participate in parliamentary elections, national referendums and European Parliament elections:
- in Hungary – at the polling station in the electoral district corresponding to their place of residence (or to the place where they have transferred their voter registration).
- at a diplomatic mission abroad – applications to vote at a diplomatic mission must be submitted no later than 9 days before the election. The application can be submitted electronically on the website of the National Election Office or on the magyarorszag.hu website, as well as by letter or in person.
In the case of local government elections it is not possible to vote at a diplomatic mission abroad.
Hungarians living abroad who do not have a residential address in Hungary can vote by post. They can register to vote no later than 25 days before the election on the website of the National Election Office or by letter.
