To ensure safe travel, EU countries have agreed on a co-ordinated approach to free movement restrictions in response to the coronavirus pandemic. EU rules now take into account your COVID-19 status as proved by a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate.

Information on travel and health measures in the EU is available online and provides travellers with up to date details of any special rules in place as well as data on infection rates.

Can I transit this country?

COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted in Romania. Providing proof of vaccination, recovery from COVID-19 or a negative test result is not required.

National health measures

COVID-19 health measures were lifted in Romania and providing COVID-19 certificates is not required to access public spaces.

The following measures are not mandatory, but still recommended:

  • wearing facemasks in crowded open spaces, on public transport, in closed spaces (including health facilities, kindergartens, schools...)
  • avoiding crowded spaces
  • washing and disinfecting hands regularly
  • performing a test if COVID-19 symptoms arise

Use of facemasks

Wearing facemasks is not required.

Indoor and outdoor meetings, public or private gatherings and events

No COVID-19 restrictions apply.

Quarantine

Confirmed COVID-19 cases must isolate for 5 days if they are vaccinated or have recovered from the disease in the last 6 months. Otherwise, quarantine lasts 7 days.

No further negative test result is required to end the quarantine.

Quarantine for people who have been in direct contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case is not necessary.

Information on 'EU Digital COVID Certificates' issued in Romania

Providing proof of full vaccination, recovery from COVID-19 or a negative test result is not required to access public spaces in Romania.

The 'EU Digital COVID Certificate' (EUDCC) is digital proof, valid in all EU countries, that a person has either been vaccinated against COVID-19, has recovered from COVID-19, or has received a negative test result. National authorities are responsible for issuing the certificate.
