To ensure safe travel, EU countries have agreed on a co-ordinated approach to free movement restrictions in response to the coronavirus pandemic. EU rules now take into account your COVID-19 status as proved by a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate.

Information on travel and health measures in the EU is available online and provides travellers with up to date details of any special rules in place as well as data on infection rates.

Use of facemasks

The use of facemasks is compulsory in health facilities and in nursing homes.

Indoor and outdoor meetings, public or private gatherings and events

Providing proof of vaccination, recovery from COVID-19 or a negative test result is not required to access indoors congresses or conferences, sports and cultural events and outdoor events.

Quarantine

Travellers can get information on individual cases by calling the helpline 1812.

The following rules apply to residents in Hungary:

  • People with mild COVID-19 symptoms should self-isolate at home, following the instructions of their healthcare provider.
  • Confirmed COVID-19 cases must self-isolate at home or at the hospital.
  • COVID-19 patients who self-isolate at home can finish quarantine after 7 days, if symptoms have disappeared. If symptoms have disappeared on day 4, quarantine can finish on day 5 after a negative test result.

Cinemas, museums and indoor attractions

The 'EU Digital COVID Certificate' (EUDCC) is digital proof, valid in all EU countries, that a person has either been vaccinated against COVID-19, has recovered from COVID-19, or has received a negative test result. National authorities are responsible for issuing the certificate.
