FAQs - Recognition of academic diplomas
I'm trying to get my degree from a Dutch university recognised in Spain. The Spanish Ministry of Education has asked me to provide confirmation that my Dutch university follows the Bologna process. I thought the Diploma Supplement would be enough, but the Spanish authorities say it isn't.
The Diploma Supplement is designed to help you get your degree recognised, but it
cannot guarantee this. If it states that your university uses the ECTS (European Credit
Transfer System) - an initiative under the Bologna process - this might go some way
towards convincing the Spanish Ministry of Education.
My son completed the first 2 years of a pharmacy degree in Hungary, but didn't finish his studies. Now he would like to continue studying in Bulgaria. Can he transfer the credits he earned? Sofia University has told him this is not possible because he took his exams in Hungary over 5 years ago. Is there a time limit?
It is up to the Bulgarian university to decide this. There are no EU rules to oblige
universities to recognise ECTS credits. The European Credit Transfer system is the
brainchild of the Council of Europe, a separate international organisation.
