Consumer dispute resolution

If you have a problem with an item or a service purchased in your own country or in another EU country, regardless of whether you bought it online or in a physical shop, there are different ways in which you can try to get your money back/get redress:

  • Informal/alternative dispute resolution: if you can't settle your dispute directly with the trader, get help from an alternative dispute resolution service or contact the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net)
  • Formal legal action: you might consider the option of a small claims procedure, or a simplified procedure called a payment order, in order to recover money from a trader in an EU country.
