Global Soil Biodiversity Conference

Environment, consumers and health, Energy and natural resources, Events/Conf/Fairs, Other bodies and agencies, European Commission The first Global Soil Biodiversity Conference, organised by the Global Soil Biodiversity Intitiative and the EcoFINDERS project team, will be held from 2-5 December 2014 at the Palais des Congrès, Dijon, France.

 

The conference aims to synthesise and incorporate the scientific knowledge on the provision of vital ecosystem services by soil biodiversity into management and policy plans. It includes keynote speakers from all over the world, and will include sessions on:

 
  • Discovery and observation
  • Tracking and monitoring
  • Untangling the linkages
  • Assessing the pressures and threats
  • Extending the knowledge base
  • Discussion panel  

The JRC is a founding member of the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative (GSBI) and is co-organiser of the conference. The JRC also contributes to the EcoFINDERS project. A key element of the GSBI is the production of the first ever Global Soil Biodiversity Atlas, co-ordinated by the JRC. The main contributors and chapter coordinators attended a progress meeting of the atlas at the JRC 26-29 March 2014. The atlas is foreseen to be published during the summer of 2015.
