A great week with Radioimmaginaria

It has been with great pleasure that the EU pavilion hosted for a week Radioimmaginaria. This webradio, for and by teenagers, is a very interesting and promising project giving full autonomy to young people radio broadcasting news in a way which is adapted to a young audience.

In the course of the week, the EU pavilion' staff has been witnessing the full commitment and professionalism of the young journalists as well as their contagious enthusiasm. Not only they have broadcasted programmes all day - dealing with food habits and many other issues related to the world food challenge - and entertained their radio audience as well as the visitors of the Cardo, but they also made some interesting reportages and interviews of staff and Commissioner generals from all the EU member states present in Expo. They also  managed to bring to their microphones David Wilkinson, EU Commissioner general to Expo, Diana Bracco, President of Expo 2015 S.p.A. and Commissioner General of the Italian Pavilion, and Giuseppe Sala,  Commissioner of the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015 and famous journalists happy to confront their views with these future professionals.

The whole project is based on an important assumption, which is that young people need to be given full responsibility and trust when dealing with a project since this is the best way for them to show their potential and learn from the experience. Adults helping them in the frame of Radioimmaginaria have to be seen as coaches,  giving them suggestions and recommendations but leaving them responsible to "play" the way they want. This is a quite interesting and wise way of learning by doing together, where teens and adults have their role to play in full cooperation in an rather open play. In other terms, with radioimmaginaria the teachers leave the kids alone, and this is for their own good obviously. Inspiring isn't it?
