Event at the European Union Pavilion in Expo Milano "Sport e alimentazione: la ricetta europea"

On 16 June, it was our pleasure to welcome Sandro Gozi, Italian Undersecretary of European Policies, and his delegation at the European Union pavilion and to host the event "Sport e alimentazione: la ricetta europea."

During the visit, we accompanied our guests through a guided tour of the pavilion, starting by presenting the European integration time-line the visitors can see in the first part and following through the story of Sylvia and Alex, protagonists of the animated film "The Golden Ear" in our 4D cinema. Sylvia, a scientist for the EU, studies food safety and policies, but barely experiences the real art or nature of cooking. Every step she takes is well calculated and she considers everything as a scientific experiment. While she has to move from the city to a little village and is getting lost in the right direction, she barely notices the lingering eyes of the handsome country man Alex. Determined to fill the void in his heart, he tries to catch her drifting attention… Read more The visit concluded in our interactive content centre, where the public can receive further information about the European Union’s contribution to feeding the planet in three main educational blocks. One part is dedicated to sustainable farming and rural development, one to SMEs and businesses and one to development cooperation and humanitarian aid.

After the tour, we hosted the event "Sport e alimentazione" investigating the relationship between sport and nutrition, that saw the participation of Mr. GOZI, our Commissioner General David WILKINSON, Pier Battista BERGONZI, Deputy Director of the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, as a moderator of the talk, Nerio ALESSANDRI, President of Technogym e Wellness Foundation, Demetrio ALBERTINI, Ambassador of Expo Milano 2015, Francesco SORO, Cabinet Secretary of the President of CONI, Alessandro NERVEGNA, Responsible of Kinder + Sport Gruppo Ferrero, Mara SANTANGELO, former tennis player and member of the National Council of CONI, Alessia ARISI, former table tennis player and member of the National Council of CONI, Raffaello LEONARDO, former rower and member of the National Council of CONI, and Lorenzo MINOTTI, former football player and athletic director. "Expo Milano is an important occasion to educate people on the benefits of sport and on the values related", states Mr. Gozi:

 

adding that: "In the country of the Mediterranean diet, we have a great challenge to tackle - control and defeat childhood obesity":

 

Of the same opinion also our Commissioner General, David Wilkinson, and our Deputy Commissioner Giacarlo Caratti, that point out:

 

Along the debate, Francesco Soro from CONI, Luigi Angelini from Technogym and Demetrio Albertini had the chace to clearly state their opinion on the relationship between sport and nutrition during their interventions:

"The fight against obesity and the teaching of food and nutrition education must start at school"

 

"Wellness must be understood not only as well-being but also as a healthy lifestyle"

 

"As it happens in the EU, in the locker room before the match we should value differences and merits"

 

After the talk was over, we recorded statements of Mr. Gozi and Mr. Albertini, commenting on their experience at the EU pavilion and inviting everybody to come visit us:

"Sylvia and Alex represent a 'Europe of opportunities', a Europe that helps youngsters to realise their dreams and projects with courage and determination. This is the Europe that we must present to young people, and the European Union pavilion with its animated film 'The Golden Ear' has hit the target"
