Wheat and bread: symbols of our participation at Expo Milan 2015

Pretzel (Germany), baguette (France), pita (Greece), pan con tomate (Spain) are among the most famous breads of Europe. But have you ever tried Kaisersemmel (Austria) to houska (Czech Republic) and rugine duona (Lithuania)?

“Wheat" and "bread" are the symbols of the EU participation at Expo 2015 Milano. Bread is a symbol of shared food and the result of hard work and an achievement of our civilisation; wheat is one of the world’s most largely cultivated crops.

This fil rouge is to be found also in the film that the EU will present at Expo 2015, "The Golden Ear", where the destinies of the two protagonists, the EU scientist Sylvia and the farmer Alex, entwine through the essence of wheat and bread.

To celebrate the importance of these vital foods, we are collecting some of the examples of the most popular bread loaves across Europe in a mouth-watering Pinterest board named "Breads of Europe".

Moreover, check these bread recipes from all EU Member States.
