How can we increase agricultural outputs sustainably? Katharina Hedlund (Centre for Environmental and Climate Research, Lunds Universitet), one of the members of our EU Scientific Steering Committee for Expo 2015 Milano, answers to one of the 7 challenges for the European research.

 

 

"To produce more food in the future, we must invest in the natural capital in agriculture. To preserve our soils is one of the key issues: to do that, we need to consider the soil biodiversity and the diversity of ground. We must consider this as an investment: by investing in the natural capital, we can reduce fertilisers and pesticides rates, and we can also produce more crop."
