*The Kapuscinski development lectures, an initiative organised jointly by the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme and the leading European universities, aims at raising awareness triggering debates on development through a series of high level lectures.

Named for Ryszard Kapuscinski (the Polish reporter and writer, Herodotus of our times considered as the master of modern journalism and greatest Third World chronicler) the lecture series offers students an unprecedented opportunity to learn and discuss about development issues such as climate change, human rights, aid effectiveness, Europe-Africa relations, Millennium Development Goals and post-2015 agenda among others.

Since 2009, over 70 lectures have been delivered by development policy thinkers and international experts such as Aung San Suu Kyi, Paul Collier, Esther Duflo, Angel Gurria, Michelle Bachelet, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Helen Clark, Francois Bourguignon, Andris Piebalgs or Tarja Halonen among others.

As a communications platform of the European Year for Development 2015, a Kapuscinski lecture is being organized in each of the 28 EU member states between October 2014 and December 2015.
