Indonesia - EU food festival, a taste of Europe

On the menu in May in top Jakarta hotels: birthday feasts for the EU’s 50th, featuring European culinary specialities from Austrian beer soup to Spanish paella.

EU food festival - a taste of Europe: in 2007 the focus will be on the EU’s 50th birthday. The festival will be one of the main events celebrating Europe Day on 9 May.

The EU food festival is a culinary celebration of Europe’s unity in diversity, showcasing the rich and varied culinary traditions of the 27 Member States. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the education of street children.

When?

From 1 to 31 May 2007

Where?

In the restaurants of major hotels in Jakarta, which will be decked out in Europe’s blue and yellow colour scheme for the occasion

What’s on the menu?

Each hotel will serve a lunch and/or dinner buffet or à la carte menu offering a variety of European dishes, ranging from Spanish paella to Belgian steamed black mussels with French fries and mayonnaise; from Danish cordon bleu to Maltese grilled fillet of white snapper with tomato, green pepper and caper sauce; from British braised kidney and liver pie to Estonian vinaigrette with herring and beets; from Hungarian veal goulash to Italian tortellini filled with veal meat and served with truffle cream sauce; from Greek salad to Lithuanian roast turkey with prunes; from Austrian beer soup to French beef bourguignon with mashed potato and steamed vegetables; from Dutch bitterballen to Irish stuffed clams; from Portuguese green soup to German rote grütze ice cream; from Cypriot egg plant moussaka to… the list is long!

Organisers

The Delegation of the European Commission in cooperation with members of the Jakarta International Hotels Association (JIHA) – a grouping of 28 four- and five-star hotels in Indonesia’s capital.
