Youth Parliament to discuss EU enlargement

Young people, make your voices heard! The Bavarian Parliament is to be transformed into a mini European Parliament for 80 youngsters aged between 16 and 21.

From 30 March to 1 April, young people will discuss the EU’s future enlargement policy and adopt a resolution to be presented at a press conference. The resolution will also be proposed in Berlin and Brussels.

EU enlargement is one of the major European success stories of the last 50 years. Nevertheless, the latest enlargements involving Central and Eastern European countries and the possible future accession of Turkey are raising concerns among many citizens.

What do European people have in common? How would a bigger EU affect our lives economically and socially? How can an EU of 27 or more countries remain effective?

Young people will discuss these issues in the Bavarian Landtag and draw up a formal statement reflecting their views.
