Under the patronage of the European Commission, the Prague International Marathon celebrates the 50th anniversary of the signature of the Treaty of Rome.
The running season will start with the Prague Half-Marathon on 24th March, which will also see the participation of the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Vladimír Špidla.
The Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic is particularly happy to support the Junior Marathon, a unique sports-cultural project for young people. This fast growing event is a relay race for Czech secondary school students who represent their schools in ten-member relay teams in semi-final rounds held in the major cities of all 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The number of participants is expected to be as many as 10,000 runners. Winning schools from semi-final rounds qualify for the big finale held in the context of the Prague International Marathon on 13 May, in which world-class athletes and amateurs from all over the world will take part.
Marathon Magazine, which will be distributed widely during both the Half-Marathon and Marathon weekends in May, includes information on the 50th Anniversary and a welcome note by Commissioner Vladimír Špidla.
