Europe in the Headlines?

How much attention was given by the Belgian press to the signing of the Treaty of Rome 50 years ago? The Belgian Royal Library is for the first time putting its exceptional collection of Belgian newspapers dating from the end of March 1957 on display.

The written press plays an indisputable role in disseminating information to its citizens. Was the decisive moment of European integration welcomed with unanimous enthusiasm or did  discordant voices resonate?  Were the stakes of European integration clearly explained?

Visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to discover, from every Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, the many articles published in the Belgian press at the end of March 1957.
