EVS Vacancy, Social-Cultural Center, Brittany (France)

project description

The MPT Penhars was founded 1984 and it is an association which is dedicated to popular education (Socio-cultural and Citizens' education). The MPT is located in a neighborhood where many people have to challenge different conditions of fragility: social, economic and psychological. The aim is to promote the values of sharing, tolerance, solidarity and the principle of secularism and democracy.
The principal project for the EVS volunteer will be to create a small garden with bio products (fruits and vegetables) for the local community. With the help of the garden we hope to inform our community about food in general, health and a balanced nutrition. With the vegetables from the garden the volunteer will organise culinary activities (for example to cook simple recipes from different regions and countries) together with participants from the local community.

accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The three volunteers in Quimper will share a flat in Quimper. Everyone will have his/ her own sleeping room, but they will share the kitchen and the bathroom. The volunteer will eat at the school and he/ she will get some money for breakfast and dinner. Therefore, he/she can decide if the volunteers want to eat together at the flat. The flat will not be far away from the school, therefore the volunteer will get a bicycle or a bus ticket.

training during the project

At the beginning the volunteer will participate in an "On-Arrival-Training" where he or she will meet all the EVS volunteers who are at the same time in France. There will be a "Mid-term seminar", as well. Besides, the Erasmus+ online course, there will be a French language class once a week. Furthermore, the five volunteers will meet once a week at one of the five associations to exchange experience, work on common projects, discover the city Quimper and the Bretagne.

volunteer profile

To have already some experience in gardening or farming is a plus, but not compulsory. We are looking forward to a volunteer who has already some social and cultural experience with a disadvantaged community. We search for a dynamic person who can listen and who is available. The volunteer should have a certain autonomy and he/she should help and encou-rage the other people from the community to realize their projects. Furthermore, the volunteer should be really interested in learning the French language and culture.

additional information

The five volunteers will start and end their EVS at the same time. They are in different hosting organisations, but they will spend a lot of time together, as well. They have the opportunity to get to know each other very well and to live the intercultural experience at home. This will give more autonomy to the volunteers and help them to get to know other people more easily. Gwennili will help the volunteers to open a bank account on which we will transfer some pocket money and some food money every month. Every hosting structure will offer a personal contact person for the EVS volunteer.
