Project description

We are looking for 2 volunteers to support residents and day care users on a one-to-one basis and get actively involved in planning and delivering activities programme, ensuring it's diverse, stimulating and in line with our organisational goal of providing people with disability the opportunity to live their lives the way they choose - with the support to live independently. Activities include arts and crafts, music, sports, theme evenings, organising fundraising events, running small projects, escorting residents in community, for example to the college. Leonard Cheshire Disability is the UK’s leading charity supporting people with disability. We work for a society in which every person is equally valued. We support over 21,000 people in the UK across over 200 services across the UK. Bells Piece operates 3 services (residential, supported living and activities services) for over 100 adults with learning disabilities, including Downs Syndrome, Autism and Aspergers Syndrome.


Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteers are accommodated in a rented accommodation in Farnham. Each volunteer has their own bedroom. Shared communal lounge, fully fitted kitchen with laundry facilities and bathroom. All bedding is supplied.


Training during the project

Thorough training on working with vulnerable adults is provided to all our volunteers and Leonard Cheshire Disability staff help volunteers during the induction process to understand each individual. Risk assessments ensure that volunteers are not asked to contribute outside of their capability or boundaries. Volunteers will be given access to the EVS online language training tools. Time is set aside for volunteers to carry out their online language studies as well as practising English every day in work and social contexts.


Volunteer profile

All people aged 18-30,who have a genuine interest and passion for working with people with disabilities. No professional skills and experience is required, however it is recommended that volunteers have an experience in similar sector or providing support in personal life in order to have a realistic idea of working with people with disabilities. As we work with vulnerable adults, the volunteers should be kind, patient and compassionate. hobbies and skills that they are willing to share with the residents, such as art, music, cooking, drama,sports that can complement therapeutic activities.

Additional information

Our volunteers are placed in various services across the UK, at the same time there are up to 20 EVS volunteers around the country.
Volunteers are actively involved in shaping their EVS experiences and we encourage volunteers to bring their own ideas, skills and passions to share with residents throughout their placements. Translate
