Project description

The Rudolf Steiner School leads students from grade 1 to grade 13, ending with the degree of the German „Abitur“. A Rudolf Steiner Kindergarten is associated with the school. The volunteer will mainly be active in the day nursery (grades 1-4) to support the staff during the lunch times and the afternoon activities (homework, games, special projects). According to the interests of the volunteer, he/she may also carry through special projects with older youths (grades 5-13) or with the kindergarten. The volunteer shall present aspects of his or her own country, e.g. music, language, games, handicraft or cooking. The volunteer´s own ideas can be realized in every-day work during the afternoons as well as in various projects. The volunteer also has the chance to develop an own project during the year. Leipzig is located in the northwest of the Free State of Saxony and has around 500,000 inhabitants.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer lives with other 6 volunteers together - have an own room, kitchen and living room are shared with other volunteers. He/She will get the money for food and the pocket money at the beginning of the month and he/she has a bicycle for free for the whole year. The volunteer can take part in a language course.

Training during the project

The volunteer takes part in two trainings - on-arrival & mid-term training. The volunteer has also a tutor at work and a mentor (person the volunteer can meet in his/her free time or ask for help as well). In addition we will realize several project days towards topic of integration of refugees / anti-discrimination / diversity - workshops, visiting institutions and organizations, contact persons in Leipzig. The volunteers will be asked to realize an own project based on the issues of the project day and/or to continue the integration projects of former volunteers.
