description of organisation

YouNet is an association founded, managed by young people who make it lively and dynamic. They come from heterogeneous background that contributed to their diverse experiences with engagement in social issues and volunteering.

The main goals of YouNet are:
- contributing to the development of the non-profit sector as a socio-economic engine for a more equitable and solidary society
- to promote and support local and international volunteering as a tool for social development and a way to build an inclusive and tolerant society
- supporting and encouraging active citizenship, especially of young people, people with disadvantage and at risk of marginalization
- promoting access to European and intercultural dimension, combating racism and xenophobia
- promoting the right to information and participation of young people

About 50 volunteers and 10 full-time staff members (almost all under 30) are active in YouNet.
They organize local and international initiatives of information, educational and professional orientation, cultural activities, social events, environmental, sports and recreational activities; volunteering and mid- and long-term learning projects and intercultural exchanges (eg tandem and language activities, educational paths with students in Europe, awareness raising in schools, recreational activities ...); training and information initiatives for associations, social and youth workers (eg information sessions on mobility opportunities for learning abroad, experiential exercises on sustainable lifestyles, European institutions simulations etc.) YouNet supports and promotes these activities and uses predominantly alternative, non-conventional and non-formal learning methods.

The target group is composed of young people under 30. In particular, YouNet focuses on NEET and young people with fewer opportunities that can benefit from participation in local and international activities of the organization.

YouNet collaborates with various schools in Bologna and surroundings and organizes diverse activities (eg. linguistics tandem, city games, intercultural activities against racism ...),

YouNet is strongly rooted in the region and in particular in Bologna and the province where it regularly organizes projects, activities, and interventions with municipalities (eg Bologna, Anzola dell’Emilia, Budrio, Medicina, San Lazzaro ...), associations (eg UISP, ANCeSCAO) of Bologna, Training Centers, Europe Direct ...). A whole YouNet workgroup is dedicated to local activities (eg school activities, language tandem, public information events ...).
YouNet is particularly active in the field of volunteering, especially with young people, but also with adult and elder people, and has been working for a number of years with the ANCeSCAO network.
In collaboration with the City and Region, YouNet launched an info-desk, YouMob. A place where experts and youth workers have provided information and support mobility opportunities (volunteering – EVS in particular, study, internships ...) abroad for seven years.
Voluntary activities abroad are closely linked to the goals of YouNet as it focuses on volunteering, socio-personal growth and active participation of young people in support of nonprofit organizations. YouNet promotes them through the YouMob service and the public initiatives it organizes and it is highly motivated to participate actively as its activities are related to the enhancement of volunteering and the participation of young people.

YouNet's activities are mainly aimed at young people and volunteers and have an intercultural dimension so hosting young European volunteers is particularly effective and synergistic. Volunteers bring a piece of Europe into local activities that YouNet organizes and are often the best ambassadors of volunteering for their peers while experiencing a multicultural and intergenerational environment.
YouNet considers volunteering as an important experience for young people with fewer opportunities as it promotes socio-personal development and growth of self-confidence in an informal, multicultural and stimulating environment and for this, it hosts and sends volunteers with less chances to pursuit of achieving their goals.
YouNet represents Emilia-Romagna in the Italian Volunteer Network of Sending Organisations (RIVE). This allowed YouNet to share information, quality standards, procedures, and good practices with other experienced organizations.
