description of organisation

KCAT Art & Study Centre is set up as an inclusive project for anybody over 16 years old. Our mission is to create an environment in which artists, actors and students from different backgrounds and with a range of abilities can work together and create as equals and in which life-long learning is an option for all. We offer a selection of part time visual art and theatre courses in which hundreds of students have participated over the last sixteen years. Among them young students who have dropped out of school and those with learning difficulties, mental health issues or disabilities. Many have been able to successfully partake in exams (FETAC Level 3,4 and 5) and progressed to third level education. We have students and participants from all walks of life and from many different countries. Since the start of the Centre in 1999 we have always had volunteers, mostly young adults from different European countries and the USA. During their time in KCAT they learned a lot about themselves, all the different people that participate in KCAT and about art. They brought enthusiasm, ideas and valuable support to KCAT.
