description of organisation

Asociatia Lumea lui Pinocchio is a non-profit organization which is active in Panciu, Vrancea, Romania, and which carries out its activity mainly in educational and social field.

Its main objectives are:
- Contributing to dialogue and to social and psychological development of Panciu youth, with special attention to the most disadvantaged categories, particularly the ones belonging to Roma minority;
- Carrying out activities concerning formal and non-formal education, which can give children and teenagers the tools to develop their own creativity and personal expression and which can properly direct the educational objectives concerning alphabetization, personal hygiene, respect towards the others and the surrounding environment;
- Encouraging the principle of active social voluntary service among local youth;
- Reducing the social causes which generate poverty, social exclusion and emargination of disadvantaged categories;
- Eliminating social diseases, such as illiteracy, school abandon, juvenile delinquncy and juvenile unemployment in Panciu.

Its vision:
- Roma and non-Roma children staying together, without any discrimination nor differences, everywhere they are, in school, at home, at sports ground, etc.
- Future parents being responsible about education, childhood and personal hygiene of their own children.
- The reduction of illiteracy and alcoholism.
- Formation and preparation to face life with consciousness and responsibility.
- The active involvement of Panciu youth in social activities towards the disadvantaged population, raising their awareness about their important role in the present and future society.

Asociatia Lumea lui Pinocchio's regular activities are targeted to 50 children belonging to the most disadvantaged brackets of the local population, in particular to the Roma minority. Beneficiaries of the association's activities are also children and youngsters of the local schools (about 130 persons), to whom we deliver sensitization and awareness raising events on social inclusion, volunteering, active citizenship and fight against discrimination. Indirect beneficiaries of our regular activities are the families of the children attending the Educational centre Pinocchio (ca. 540 persons) and the whole citizenry of Panciu (ca. 8000 persons).

The educational activities are thus the focus of the Association and regard:
- alphabetization;
- afterschool;
- education to hygiene;
- respect for the environment;
- non formal education (workshops on recycling; music, theatre, painting, clownerie, jonglerie, games, etc.).
The Centre Pinocchio (managed by Association Lumea lui Pinocchio) has been recently accredited as social services provider. Such a status has been granted given its commitment and experience in:
- building positive relations with the families of the Roma children attending the Daily Educational centre Pinocchio;
- school mediation activities in order to foster dialogue and mutual understanding between children parents and teachers;
- individual and group counselling activities for children at risk;
- prevention of scholastic dropout and juvenile delinquency.

In addition to these socio-educational activities, Asociatia Lumea lui Pinocchio is strongly committed in promoting volunteering at local, national and international level.
