Storytelling Variety is an NGO active in the field of storytelling and education. It is a member of pan-European network called FEST that connects more than 40 storytelling organizations from across Europe. In Ljubljana, where we are based, we run storytelling events for adults and children and organize short- and long-term educational programs in the field of storytelling. Also, we develop programs that use storytelling as part of integration and rehabilitation processes. We cooperate with different cultural and educational institutions, amongst them publishing houses, theaters, art cinema, universities, primary schools, kinder gardens etc. We also have an established cooperation with Roma kinder garden and female prison, where we run programs for literacy, integration and rehabilitation. Our regular programs include monthly/weekly storytelling events for adults and children in three different institutions in Ljubljana (bookstore House of Dreaming Books, Family center Mala Ulica and House of Literature, Reading and Storytelling Vodnikova domačija). Educational projects include School of Storytelling that runs every Friday and Saturday between October and April; worksops of storytelling for parents; workshops of storytelling for children aged 5 – 10 and 11 – 14. Occasionally, we also run a custom-made workshop of storytelling for a specific group, such as students at the Faculty of Education or librarians.Since 2010, we have been working with Roma kinder garden in the villages Kerinov grm; we were teaching storytelling methods to Roma teachers and used these same methods to work with teenagers and children with the aim of increasing their literacy. In Female prison Ig, we have been running a program of storytelling and writing since 2013. In the past, program was expanded to include theatre work, singing and publishing a magazine. For the future, we are working on connecting prisoners with one of our centers for disabled youth. In September 2015, our organization joined the team of newly opened House of Literature, Reading and Storytelling Vodnikova domačija in Ljubljana. The house is an old building in a quiet part of town, close both to the woods and to the city centre. It consists of one performing space that can host about 100 members of audience, a galery space and several smaller spaces that can work as reading/writing rooms. House also has an outdoor performing space of about the same size as the indoor performing space and a small library of more or less random literature. In House of Literature, Reading and Storytelling Vodnikova domačija, our organization will run the following programs:- Tiny Variety: 2-hour long program for children every second Sunday that will include storytelling, creative workshops and theatre for children aged 3 – 7.
