description of organisation

Consorzio Solidarietà Sociale Forlì-Cesena was founded in 1985 by an association group, social cooperatives and individuals as a reference point for the social initiatives realised by the founder partners. Since then, the organization has assisted to the creation of new social cooperatives, has activated new services necessary to the activities of its members, contributing to the growth of the local environment.
It now rappresents 10 social cooperatives and 2 associations with about 600 workers in total (43 with disabilities or with addiction problems) which operates in many different fields:
• minors and adolescents
• disability
• elderly
• adult discomfort
• mental health
• addiction problems
• immigrants
• job placement: in the last years we have also activate an office for helping unemployed people to find a job.

The aims of Consorzio Solidarietà Sociale are:
• connecting the values of solidarity (partecipation, attention to the individual, quality of services) to the profit culture
• introducing innovations into the welfare sector of the local community.
Consorzio operates both at local and national level: it is an important actor in province of Forlì-Cesena and a member of Italian networks, such as CGM, Federsolidarietà – Confcooperative and Forum del Terzo Settore (Third Sector Forum). Consorzio manages activities of shared interests among the partners functioning as a co-ordinating organization in various fields (administration, project management, trainings for social workers, fund raising, etc). In particular, the Human Resourses Area of Consorzio manages volunteering projects by running the selection and monitoring young people engaged in volunteering activities, deals with the planning and development of training courses in different thematic areas such as:
• qualification of professional workers
• trainings for managers, employees and voluntary workers
• psycho-pedagogical and socio-organizational advisory
• promotion of volunteering and social cooperation
• promotion of active citizenship and European mobility (through Servizio Civile Regionale and Nazionale and EVS)

CSS believes that sending and receiving international volunteers is a way to open the doors of its social cooperatives and of the local community to the themes of the European citizenship and awareness. We can develop local community’s understanding of diversity through direct contact with foreign volunteers who decided to offer their time and competences to people with fewer opportunities in a country different from their own. As for the sense of European citizenship, our experience has shown that volunteers being in direct contact with other Europeans citizens get a better understanding of the meaning of European citizenship. Our projects aim to stimulate the active participation of young people in the development of their local community and of the European one. So far European volunteers have represented an added value to our cooperatives in terms of different cultural background. The staff, the users and all the people who are connected to the cooperative system (families, local volunteers and young people from Servizio Civile), and the local community as a whole benefit from this international dimension.
The quality management system of Consorzio Solidarieta Sociale Forli-Cesena is in compliance with the standard ISO 9001:2008.
