SOSW Centrum Autyzmu i CZR

Centrum Autyzmu (Centre for Autism) was founded by parents and teachers in 1992 as a School for Autistic Children. It became independent in 2003, after receiving its name as a Special Educational School No 13 and in 2013, as a result of merge of three schools and facilities it turned into The Centre for Autism And Complex Developmental Disabilities (SOSW Centrum Autyzmu i Całościowych Zaburzeń Rozwojowych). The Centre is an educational establishment addressed for autistic and mentally disabled children and youth, consisting of kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and vocational centre, located in two premises. For younger students the Centre provides early childhood intervention. Centre’s mission is to create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and safe. Centre of Autism is the place where student’s needs are noticed and fulfilled, going along with parents and staff needs to achieve the highest learning outcomes.
The Centre provide complex therapy and education from birth till 25 years of age. Students attend classes from Monday to Friday, starting usually at 7.30 AM and going back home at 4 PM. Depending on students abilities, school differentiates the programme and teaching methods focusing on personal needs of each one. School finds it important to use supportive methods of communication (alternative communication), as majority of participants are non-verbal students. Schools offers educational activities, gym, swimming pool activities, sensory stimulation therapy, therapeutic play, development of social skills, communication therapy, psychological therapy, speech therapy, art and music therapy and vocational workshops. School also addresses its offer to the younger children, proposing afternoon development-support activities. The Centre of Autism puts emphasis on the development of:
-communication skills
-independent living skills
-social skills
-positive behavior
Thanks to the highest quality of management and organisation and individual approach to each student school has created a perfect surrounding allowing its participants to grow and develop their skills and knowledge.
