Võsukese kindergarten is a pre-primary school and was opened in 2015. Võsukese kindergarten is a municipal kindergarten located in Jüri, a small town in Rae parish about 12 km from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia . There are 240 pupils in our school (from 2 to 7 years old) and 56 employees work in it. Children have been divided into 12 groups by their age. There are 3 teachers working with each group. We also have a teacher for special educational needs and speech therapist.
Rae parish is a county and the residential number is about 17000. Here we have natural environment, lot of health tracks and close large industry. This perfect location gives us opportunity for fantastic outdoor-learning. Public transportation between Jüri and Tallinn works well.
Attention to diversity is one of the most important priorities in our school. The personalising of education signifies the permanent adaptation of educational intervention to each pupil’s ways of learning. We try to achieve a comprehensive education which is open to diversity. Other important aims in our school are: teaching children to be respectful, the promotion of children’s self-esteem, the stimulation of creativity, and creating a relaxed atmosphere at school, where communication between parents and staff is very positive.
Traditional culture in our pedagogical process is very important too, including national and regional culture, and foreign cultures too. Cultural activities are enriching, motivate children, lead them to learn lots of different aspects in a meaningful way, and they become more respectful. Working on different cultures and attending to diversity is very important for teachers. Thus, international cooperation will be a very useful tool: it will bring other cultures to our school, and we will achieve that children understand that diversity is enriching and fun! Learning traditional aspects of other cultures will be really motivating and a great chance, not only for children, but also for teachers, who will also share experiences with teachers in other countries. Our kindergaten is eco- friendly farm kindergarten with farm animals ( all year around rabbits, half year sheeps) , vegetable garden, fruit trees and bushes. We are composting, using recycled materials. Our focus is on good nutrition, well being and protecting the environment.
What makes our Kindergarten unique is that we love – playing, cooking, painting, crafting and singing in our activity corners. We are happy to explore and be active outside, we go on field trips and we enjoy doing sports and we take good care of the rabbits and sheep. In the winter we go skiing and in spring we make our hands dirty and plant the seeds in the ground to harvest in the future. We are great at recycling and at re-using products. So we can organize workshops, trainings, culinary labs (how to learn through cooking).
The volunteer will be involved in everyday routine. He/she will be playing with children, will be supporting teachers in their tasks like teaching indoor and outdoor, eating with children, putting kids to bed for a nap, so on. Besides that volunteer has a chance to teach children English words and his/her native language words. Also we would like him/her to teach our children elements of his/her culture, traditions and games. If we will have 2 volunteers in same time then their tasks and schedules will be the same but they would be working with different children groups.
An example of a typical day:
8.30 – 9.00 meeting children and breakfast, supporting teacher
9.30 participating group´s welcoming circle, if ready then leading the circle
10.00 – 12.00 supporting teacher in taking children to their music lesson, physical lesson; supporting teacher in taking children to outside to play or for a walk in nature trails. If ready then teaching children his/her own language, culture, traditions and games
12.30 – 13.30 lunch with children, supporting teacher in teaching table manners
13.30 – 14.00 putting children to bed for a nap, if ready then singing a lullaby.
14.30-15.00 children are waking up, dressing them, eating a snack with them, supporting teacher in those activities
15.00 – 16.30 supporting assistants in activities which teacher had left for the group (teacher works until 2 PM), if ready then teaching children his/her own language, culture, traditions and games
Volunteer will be working with different group every week.
Volunteer will be learning nursing, ways how to teach preschool education. Also learn Estonian language at least 32 hours per week, culture, traditions and games.
This organisation is accredited to run projects under Erasmus+ Volunteering and the European Solidarity Corps.
