description of organisation

Our organization is private institution called Familija which deals with education and therapy, the development of personal potentials, as well as free time contents, school and work advising et cetera.

1. Under its patronage is a daily youth center called MDC BLOK, which offers diverse and free programs for young people ranging between the ages of 12 and 18. First and foremost it is a local organization but it is also globally orientated in its state of mind. The purpose of its existence is to promote diverse and constructive free time. In accordance with this spirit, there are different activities going on which are mostly creative and practical, such as various workshops (creative, music, dancing, theater, cooking and reading, writing, sport, social participation, excursions) as well as learning support and extra lessons.
The daily youth center is designed for underprivileged children and for those who do not have the chances they need to develop their personal potential. These kinds of young people consequently then grow into immature adults, who end up representing the whole of society's problem. The responsibility of our daily center is not insignificant. To act appropriately and positively influence these youth, we also connect with other similar institutions, schools, centers of social work, other institutions of Familia, ZavodO, libraries et cetera.

2. The second progamme that exists under the patronage of Familija is PUM. PUM means "Project learning for younger adults". Target group are people from 15 to 25 years. The main aim of the project is informal learning and therefore gaining different competences and skills thrue these form of learning. Basic aims of PUM are: a) encourage personal growth b) fight social exclusion c) enable basic education d) formation od proffesional, social and cultural identity.
The programme involvement lasts 1 year most. In certain circumstances less but never less than 3 months. The youngsters in this time learn about different occupations and educational programs. They are discovering their interests thrue project working. Each group has to present a project to the public - libraries, galleries, radio, television, internet et cetera.

Both programms, MDC BLOK and PUM, are for participans free of charge and based on voluntary participation. Our aim is to reduce the amount of behavioural and social anomalies in certain local environments and to offer children with difficult family backgrounds
the possibility of success.
An important aim which we also follow is to inform our youth about opportunities available to them, not just considering the constraints of the local environment. We would like to encourage their talents

The principle of our activities is based on openness, which is why the EVS project is very suitable for us. Volunteers from other geographical and cultural territories would help our center grow, not only in standard but also the young people would have an opportunity to widen their pattern of thinking and acting. On the other hand the both institutions are very perspective environment for EVS volunteers to show and improve their own abilities and skills, to grow in their knowledge, to be a part of sucessful work-team, to show or to develop their self-initiative which is one of the most likable characteristic in our institution. The EVS volunteers are well and fairly included in the working team. All issues considering work, developent, ideas, progress or problems are always welcome to discuss individauly or on the weekly meatings.

The local enviroment of Familija (BLOK and PUM) is a small and beatiful town Škofja Loka. PUM is located in the towns center, Blok is located 3 km out of the center in the closer neigbhorhood. The town has all the basic facillites for quality social life. The capital Ljubljana is very close, 25 km with local transport. Worth of mentioning is also a big amount of small and cute hills around Škofja Loka, two picterscue rivers that hold the town and availability of various natural treasuers of Slovenia that can be easily reached from Škofja Loka. It is definitelly a place where an EVS volunteer could learn a lot, have a good social life with many possibilities of sport activities and relaxations in the nature.
