The association Reencontro was founded in 22 of March, 2010 with headquarters in the street of Escolas n.º 4 and 6 in Vila Nova de Tazem-Gouveia-Guarda. In the year of 2013, the organization obtained, by the Social Security, the recognition as an IPSS.

The main objectives of the association are the following: to promote activities and initiatives of a social, educational, cultural and recreational nature that enable collective learning of relationships between individuals, social groups, the environment in which they live and fulfill needs and / or interests of the members or community; develop services and activities aimed at the integral promotion of the individual, family, community, stimulating their active participation, promoting volunteering and giving priority to networking with local, national and/or international partners; develop projects to support children and young people at risk, promote gender equality, prevent and combat domestic and gender-based violence and trafficking in human beings, promoting the fight against the various forms of exclusion of these groups.
In order to pursuit of its purposes, the association intends to create and maintain the following activities: work with national and/or international organizations in order to establishing partnerships for the reception and support the integration of families of refugees and other who manifest this need; establishing partnerships between organizations in order to cooperate, in particular, the common use of services or equipment and the development of social solidarity actions of common responsibility or complementarity.
In this way, Reencontro in 14th of October, 2015, signed a protocol with the Platform of Refugees Support (PAR) becoming the first association of the Guarda district to be a refugee shelter.
After the signing of this agreement, the Reencontro hosted a Syrian family consisting of 7 elements, including 5 children and young people. The Reencontro shares the mission of PAR in receiving and providing shelter and international protection to refugee families.
Yet another protocol was made between Reencontro and the Association of Hospitality Companies of Portugal (AHP). The AHP has developed, in collaboration with its associates, the HOSPES Program, which includes several projects, including the collection of mattresses and other material used in hotel units, with a view to making their subsequent donation Institutions that lack them. The purpose of the Protocol between Reencontro and AHP is to establish a cooperative relationship between the signatory entities, aiming at the collection of mattresses and other types of assets associated with the hotel business, made available by the associated hotels and AHP partner companies, for the benefit of the Reencontro. These assets are for exclusive distribution to beneficiaries in a situation of need, identified by the Reencontro or to be used in equipment of a social nature, which it rotates, in no case having direct or indirect commercial use.

The Reencontro also develops several activities that are intended to respond to some of the needs of the community such as: Yoga; Ballet and dance; Senior gymnastics; Explanations; Craft workshop (occupation of free time of the oldest); Holiday camps for children and young people from 6 to 15 years of age; layette of the mother and baby and supporting of families in situations of vulnerability.
We belong to Reuse – Movement for the reuse of school books, promote the creation and dissemination of school collection and sharing banks throughout the country. The school book collection banks receive and make available free used school books. Also in this sense, our organization established a protocol with Banco Alimentar da Cova da Beira for the delivery of paper. The campaign is called "Paper for Food" and integrates into a broader sense of awareness of the importance of each person's role in society and the possibility of retrieving and reusing things that seem to have no value. It intends to involve the Institutions that daily supply themselves in the Food Banks and the volunteers that collaborate, but also all the people and entities that want to associate, namely the public and local administration.

Recently, the Reencontro developed projects with a European dimension under the Erasmus+ program. These projects aim at the mobility of young people, youth workers and European volunteers for learning and skills development, based on the themes of social inclusion and diversity, refugees, combating domestic violence, combating poverty, employability, the environment, health and well-being, among others.
