It was a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded in 1988 by 49 women. Apart from relief works, it can reach many women from different socio-cultural levels with periodical events. In particular, it provides various initiatives for women and young people who have financial problems and are therefore out of educational facilities. In this scope; opportunities are provided with financial aid for those who are in school age to continue their education, while the grounds for new perspectives are being prepared with activities such as conferences, panels, seminars and so on.

Women’s Education and Culture Foundation works to provide the balance between the need to keep up with our time and our social values; it aims for an educated and cultured society without poverty. The mission of the Women’s Education and Culture Foundation is; bringing the segments of the society in economic deprivation into self-sufficiency, forming a basis for the target human source to reach the cultural and social wealth, dissolving the opposition and polarizations by spreading the civil society and aid consciousness in society.

The main working areas of HEKVA;
• Struggling against poverty and lack of education.
• Support activity for disadvantageous women, children,families and make them acquired a profession.
• Increasing the women employment
• Making young people active in NGOs
• Organizing seminars and conferences over education,law,family communication to strenghten the socio-economically disadventagous women
• Advocacy and lobbying activities
• Cooperation with foreign and domestic NGOs, Leadership for creating umbrella organizations to increase activity of civil society and attending these organizations.

All HEKVA activities run through membership fee, incomes of real estate properties, philantropists' donations, sponsorships and commercial enterprises of HEKVA.
