description of organisation

Kultur och fritidsavdelningen is the Culture and Leisure department of the Örnsköldsvik Municipality. Its operations are divided into two parts; one is the activites run by the department itself, in the field of culture and leisure. The other part is the leisure activities run by various non-government associations and organizations which are supported by municipality grants. The municipality are in close discussions with the NGO’s, offering them various help and financial support. The department is also responsible for various sports- and culture venues owned by the municipality and the rental of these. Another responsibility is the maintenance and use of buildings and areas of historic, aesthetic and/or cultural value.

Further more, the department is the main coordinator for the civil society’s activities around integration and refugees. The mission is supported by the municipality policies regarding the civil society. The culture and Leisure department are cooperating with various actors in the civil society with the aim to create a meaningful leisure time and build the confidence for the inhabitants who are starting a new life in Sweden. The municipality supports the activities financially and by creating meeting points to facilitate dialogue between Swedes and various immigrant groups. These are efforts that are meant to strengthen all communities and the whole society. While we are continuously supporting the civil society in their work with helping asylum seekers and those who got residency permit, we are also developing new activities in the area of internationalization. For example by taking part in international exchange programs and offering support to various local initiatives.
