The Centro Sociosanitario of Plasencia is a public hospital that provides its services in the Health Area of Plasencia, of provincial scope (Cáceres) with two Assistance Programs of regional scope (Extremadura). Its mission is to provide comprehensive care in Mental Health, aimed at the prevention, care and rehabilitation of people with mental illness, intellectual disability, addictive behaviors and gerontopsychiatric syndromes. It has an endowment of 406 professionals ( 237 Sanitary and 169 non sanitary)

It has 330 structural beds plus 4 places in partial hospitalization. Currently the assistance activity is provided through the following units: Medium Stay Unit , Hospital Rehabilitation Unit ,Hospital Alcohol Unit ,Behavioral Disturbances Unit, Psychogeriatric Unit ,Long-Stay Unit

It consists of the following units:

-Unit of Medium Stay
Patients with diseases in chronic process who present active symptomatology in spite of having followed treatment in regime of revenue in Units of Brief Hospitalization, besides patients with scanty or void social-familiar support which prevents the ambulatory treatment.

- Unit of Rehabilitation
Patients whose psychiatric active symptomatology is not wiping out in the average time of internment in the Unit of Medium Stay, existing reasonable expectations that they could benefit from the specific treatments of the Units of Rehabilitation.

Patients with many years of hospitalization, who live in the units of chronic persons of the psychiatric hospitals and have psyco-social deficits that can be corrected by the rehabilitation.

Patients with serious mental disorder who, because of their chronic evolution, refractoriness, dysfunction and / or disruptive conduct, are not suited to the interventions in other resources and whose treatment in community resources would be difficult, needing to continue treatment of rehabilitation in a hospitable environment.

- Unit of Alcoholism
Alcoholic patients who fulfil the criteria of revenue, in this Unit they realize the detoxification and start the disintoxication of their dependence.

- Psicogeriatrícs' Unit
Patients over 65 years of age living in the Centro Sociosanitario.

- Unit of Long Stay.This unit is organized in different areas:
1. Chronic Mental Illness (independent pavilion for men and women): patients with serious mental disorder and no chance of rehabilitation.
2. Mental Retardation (pavilion for men and women).
3. Elderly people.

Each unit has its own operating protocols and is attended by multidisciplinary teams, (Psychiatrist, Family Doctor, Hospital Pharmacist, Clinical Psychologist, Social Worker, Nursing mostly with specialty Psychiatric, Physiotherapist, Nursing Assistants, Therapist and Occupational Monitors, with the support of the Management Team, Computer and General Services, Hospital Kitchen, laundry, ordinances, maintenance, cleaning, Security and Security Service, warehouse workers,... which, thanks to its coordination, guarantees the daily functioning and care of our patients, providing comprehensive quality care.

The aim of the center is provide quality, gender-sensitive, community-based and inclusive care for people with mental and behavioural disorders, with respect for their dignity and human rights.

The figure of the European volunteer at the centre is a great tool to improve the quality of life of patients, through the accompaniment and performance of sports and/or leisure activities.
