The annual European Week of Sport is designed to encourage a healthier lifestyle through physical activity. Focusing on grassroots initiatives, it showcases opportunities for all - regardless of age, background or fitness level.
In September 2015, the Week encompassed hundreds of events across the 28 EU countries – plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Norway and Turkey. It focused on:
- education environment
- he workplace
- outdoor activities
- sport clubs
- fitness centres.
A highlight was the flagship event held on 9 September in Brussels. This brought together decision-makers, collaborators, and experts from across the EU to share best practices, debate issues and find new ideas for promoting physical activities. It hosted sport activities, workshops, a conference and an awards ceremony for the best grassroots initiatives in Europe.
