RSBC Creative collaborate with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

The project organised in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Eurodesk partner, the Royal Society for Blind Children, joined together for an exciting creative music project during February half term. Open to young people with visual impairments aged 10-25; no prior musical experience was required. Workshops were led by 3 RPO musicians and a professional workshop leader. 14 members of Eurodesk Partner RSBC’s Creative Group grabbed their instruments and enthusiasm and made their way to the London Welsh Centre for a week of music making and fun!
The week of composing concluded with an hour long concert at the M&G Headquarters in London, with hundreds of people listening and cheering the young people on.
“I have made lots of new friends in a short time and can’t wait to make my own music.” Ebenezer, RSBC Creative Group member.
The RSBC Creative Group gives visually impaired young people a creative outlet through song writing and production as well as developing music production skills. They boost their confidence through working as a group towards performances.
During the performance, the group played and sung three of their own compositions, including a piece about “living life without limits”. It was well received, with an M&G staff member saying:
"The thought of performing at a music concert after just a few days of practise terrifies me! The fact that these children, who face more challenges than most of us in daily life, embraced the task of performing and writing some very touching songs is hugely impressive! The concert was incredibly uplifting and credit is due to all those involved in making such a wonderful event happen."
