Intercultural learning across boarders
YFU Vlaanderen vzw
The application deadline has passed.
Project descriptionWe have two volunteering positions. 1. Cultural games: These are games played in day care centers all over Belgium Flanders with children aged 4-12. The ESC volunteer will assist in the booking, preparation and execution of the games. This involves emailing, calling the organisations, making a planning, contacting game leaders, preparing materials (sometimes even making new things) and being second game leader for big groups. It's +- 80% office work, 20% execution. 2. Coloured glasses workshops: These workshops are done for groups of teenagers or older. They can be done at schools, youth movements, hobby clubs,... Each workshop is unique because there are diff different topics: human rights, stereotypes, intercultural communication,... and different possible tools for every topic. The volunteer will lay contacts with organisations, book the workshop and be the workshopleader. Both volunteers will also assist in the promotional activities of the organisation.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsVolunteers will stay with a hostfamily or will live in a shared (student)accommodation depending on the availability. The accommodation will be in Mechelen so the volunteer only has a short walk or bike ride to the office. In case bus or train transport is needed, YFU will cover costs. Depending on the living situation either the volunteer or the hostfamily will receive food allowance to take care of meals.
Training during the projectThe volunteer will be trained by the staff people in the office or other volunteers whom were involved in previous projects. During the whole volunteering project the volunteer will also be enrolled in Dutch classes (either during the day or in the evening) to be able to learn the language as quickly as possible. For the games and the workshops the volunteer will join an experienced trainer for a couple of activities before executing the workshops/games on his/her own.
Volunteer profileDepending on the chosen position the volunteer will need different skills. 1. Being creative, being able to do a lot of administration in a correct way, having experience with children,... 2. Being a good group leader, being able to work independently, being good in administration,... Both volunteers need to be interested in intercultural learning and need to be able to work in a small team with a lot of independence.
