Project descriptionIt will be the task of the volunteers to accompany and guide the children in their activities and to support them in the case of any problems. Regarding the very small children, they will need to help with meals, dressing and undressing, goint to the toilet, etc. The volunteers will do all their tasks under supervision and with the support of professional staff. The volunteers will be introduced to all parts of the work of the pedagogical staff. This introduction into work includes: becoming a part of the team working with groups of children introduction in the pedagogical work with the children's parents cooperation with the school teachers connection to technical staff how to behave in special situations preparing and performing for holidays (Grandma and Grandpa day; carneval; …) handicrafts and creative activities
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsEach volunteer will have his/her own single room in a 3-room flat Fürstenwalde. The bathroom, the kitchen and the corridor has to be shared with two other volunteers. In the building there are two other flats where are living other EVS volunteers. The volunteer will receive food allowance (236,00 €) and pocket money (110,00 €) and should cook for him/herself. Fürstenwalde is situated 60 km far from Berlin. There is a train which runs every 30 min. to Berlin and takes about 40 min. The working place is in Heinersdorf, so that the volunteer has to travel daily by bus to the placement.
Training during the projectThe volunteers have to participate in two seminars (on-arrival, mid-term), organized by the German National Agency. Moreover, the volunteers, belonging to the same coordinating organisation (JuSeV), participate monthly in the cultural-meeting-days which are organized by the association.
Volunteer profileThe volunteers are selected on the basis of the received applications (motivation letter and curriculum vitae). Criteria for the work in the area of the day care center are: openness, sense of responsibility, enjoying the work with children. Experiences in the work with children as well as a basic knowledge of German language are very helpful, but not a requirement. It would be very welcome if the applicant played a musical instrument. Gender, nationality, religion and graduations or school reports don’t play any role.
