Summer Camps Volunteer

Woodcraft Folk

Manchester, United Kingdom

The application deadline has passed.

Activity description

Our organisation works on societal change through global solidarity and youth empowerment but our staff team is low in European diversity. This project, Summer Camps Volunteer, aims to bring a meaningful European dimension to our national summer camps taking place in summer 2021, in the form of a long-term ESC volunteer. The volunteer would stay with us from June - November 2021 to enrich two summer camps: 1. 2nd-7th August 2021 in Herefordshire: 350 young people aged 10-12 with a theme of sustainable development - Engineering solutions to climate change 2. 7th - 13th August in Herefordshire: 450 young people aged 13-16 with a theme of Youth leadership. After the camps the participant would help us develop our 'distanced membership' offer to engage with young people across the UK who are not already part of our organisation and help to coordinate residential trips at our centres and campsites in the Autumn of 2021.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The accommodation will be a hosted house in Machester. The household will offer practical advice and social interaction but more importantly the chance for the volunteer to have their own privacy and independence too. The volunteer can receive a food allowance to make their own meals, as well as weekly pocket money. Full induction will be given to the UK transport systems, tickets and personal safety issues. During set-up and duration of the camps, the volunteer will be camping at the event site. Equipment for this is provided. The volunteer will have the opportunity to visit our other centres

Training during the activity

There will be an organisational induction - one-to-one learning, shadowing staff, joining member meetings, independent reading and IT-induction. In-country orientation will be offered by EIL UK, dates to be confirmed. Our staff team will train the volunteer in our ethos, Safeguarding and Health and Safety. Regular reviews will help to identify further training needs, for example in Food Hygiene, Finance Skills or running camps and residentials. The volunteer will benefit from a Mentor and has the option of English classes if needed.
