Set course for Solidarity
Set course for Solidarity
Sail Training Association Netherlands (STAN)
Activity descriptionWe organise youth projects on sailing ships. Our work includes general tasks at the office, related to the projects, depending on your interests and areas you’d like to improve, for example: communication with participants and potential partners from your country, translating some materials into your own language, helping with programs and logistic preparations of the projects, coming up with sustainable solutions for our office, helping to create social media content, flyers, posters, videos, presentations, etc., some administrative tasks. Optionally, depending of the volunteer’s interests and learning goals: making videos, flyers, helping with finances, applying for funds, creating content for social media and others (we can be a bit flexible). During the summer we are present at maritime festivals. We will aim to give you an experience sailing on a Tall Ship, but these days we can't guarantee it.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsYou will live near the centre of Amsterdam, on a converted ship Brandaris. This ship doesn’t sail, but is permanently docked in a canal. You will have your own cabin and share the living space with 3 other volunteers. Grocery stores are nearby. You will be provided with a bicycle for the duration of your stay. The office and your living area are one the same ship. That makes for a very short commute, but can also mean little privacy sometimes. There are occasional weekend meetings at the office. The Brandaris ship dog Tibbe lives onboard so we cannot host volunteers with dog allergies.
Training during the activityOn arrival training offered by the national ESC agency; coaching by a friendly mentor; coaching sessions with project leader; daily guidance by the manager at work; "Dinghy" - fundraising and personal development training; training/preparation to become a mentor for Exchange participants (if applicable); Sail Training on board certified sail training vessels.
Participant profileMotivation is the most important part! Tell us about yourself and your goals, and how do you see participating in this specific project will benefit you personally or professionally. We are a small team of sailing enthusiasts but our daily work is done at the office and doesn’t include sailing (except very occasionally). We would love to hear from people who want to gain experience in managing international youth projects and are curious about sustainability, sailing or personal development. And if you like video editing then we could certainly give you lots of fun and challenging projects!
