Activity description
THE CHATTERBOXES is a youth action project run by young people with disabilities aged 11-25 years old from Bournemouth, Poole and other parts of Dorset. The Chatterboxes’ main aim is to raise awareness of disabilities and create a community which is equal for all whilst being surrounded by friendship and laughter. Within all groups there is a focus on transitions and supporting members to build skills to help them in the future. Activities include >Supporting staff to deliver youth action projects face-to-face and online >Supporting staff to plan activities and sessions >Building professional relationships with young people >Promoting wellbeing and providing guidance >Encouraging young people to engage in activities >Attending conferences, meetings or training sessions related to youth work >Supporting young people to design and deliver community events face-to-face or online >Supporting staff to deliver accreditation schemes >Helping to produce promotional and social media materialsAccommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accommodation will be likely be a private room in a shared flat but this is subject to final confirmation and may change at a later date. You will receive your monthly pocket money and food top-up (unless in a host family) paid into your bank account. The role is 30 hours per week Monday-Friday plus you will receive your annual leave of 2 days per month. You may occasionally be required to volunteer during unsociable hours or weekends. Your journeys on local transport will be reimbursed. You will also be assigned a Mentor to support your wellbeing and there is a free YMCA counselling service.Training during the activity
You will attend a YMCA Induction, On-Arrival Training and Mid-Term Training. You will receive Basic Safeguarding Training. You will have access to the Online Linguistic Support tool. You may have other training opportunities where relevant to your role. Unfortunately, we cannot fund any additional training you may want to do. We can host any volunteers of any sex who are aged between 18-30. Although we are open to those who have some special needs or physical impairments you would need to be able to work independently and without supervision whilst carrying out your tasks. You will be interested in youth work and possibly have some disability awareness. You will have a desire to reach people of all ages and backgrounds in the local community.
