Activity Assistants (Children's Summer Holiday Club)

Activity description

YMCA Bournemouth’s Leisure Department provides quality health and fitness services for the local community people and much more. Every summer, we hold the Inspire Holiday Club for children aged 5-12 years. The activities include dodgeball, dance, circus, trampolining, sports, gymnastics, art n crafts etc. We are looking for 5 Activity Assistants to volunteer across these different activities as and when required and assigned to do so. Your week will be 8am - 5.30pm across 4 days Monday-Friday including your travel time (up to 2 hours per day on the bus) so 9.5 hours per day including a 1-hour lunch break. A t-shirt will be provided for you. During your weekends (plus 2 holiday days) you can enjoy our award-winning beach, nearby Jurassic Coast and summer festivals.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

UNFORTUNATELY WE DO NOT HAVE A BUDGET FOR VISA APPLICATIONS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY. Accommodation will be shared rooms in a host family or hostel in Bournemouth and bedding will be provided. You will receive a pocket money allowance of €6 per day plus either top-up for food or meals provided. Lunches will be provided when at the Holiday Club and you will receive a bus pass to help you get to the Holiday Club (up to 2 hours per day). You should advise us of any access / dietary requirements or medical conditions / allergies which may affect your volunteering or living conditions.

Training during the activity

You will receive Basic Safeguarding Training. According to official ESC guidance, you are not permitted to take up employment during your volunteering placement.

Participant profile

• A love for child-centred sport and leisure activities. • Good time management, admin/organisational skills. • Good communication skills, both oral and written. • Able to work under one’s own initiative and efforts. • Team worker with the ability to inspire, motivate and direct the work of others. • Able to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of activities provided by the leisure centre staff. • Able to communicate with customers and their children providing fun and engaging activities. • Good customer service skills. • Knowledge of Health and Safety.
