Project description

We are a medico social establishment, located in Flers, supporting 65 kids from 6 to 20 years old, with slight intellectual impairment with, for some, associated disorders (difficulties of expression, relationship, integration of social codes, psychic disorders, autistic traits ...). The volunter will develop : - Self-knowledge as a citizen: knowing one's strengths and emotions, situating oneself in relation to others, favoring initiative-taking, knowing how to react when faced with the unexpected, knowing one's rights and duties, taking responsibility, being open to the environment - Intellectual capacities: using reading / writing / counting in the daily life, acquiring landmarks in time and space, - Social skills : the ability of children and adolescents to relate, get along, cooperate and interact with each other. - Professional skills: acquire know-how, adapt to the requirements of the workplace, comply with health and safety standards.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation will initially be with one of the employees of the institution (2-4 weeks) and then in a single room appartment. The volunter will have money for food, as well as a pocket money. The volunter will have a bus car for local transport.

Training during the project

In addition to the mandatory training (on arrival training), the volunter will discover the professions working with the youngsters in this organisation : teachers, educaters, youth workers.

Volunteer profile

The volunteer should be very interested in the medical and social fields. She/He will evolve with the different professionals, which will allow to have a global vision of the support offered, educational strategies implemented according to the specific needs of each. Each individual is unique. The responses are therefore diverse. He or she may attend meetings to develop the "individual support plan" with the young person and their family. She/he will read the new project of the institution written in 2019, which sets out the concepts regarding professional posture, the values of support.
