Europe through games
Centre européen Robert Schuman (CERS)
Project description‘L’Europe en jeux - Europe through games’ is a project focused on youth, (non-formal) education, on the ‘Idea of Europe’, the promotion of Robert Schuman’s ideas and solidarity. The mission is based in Scy-Chazelles, France, where the House of Robert Schuman is located. We do aim at promoting solidarity as a value, mainly through volunteering, to enhance the engagement of young people as a mean to contribute to strengthening cohesion, solidarity, democracy and citizenship in Europe. Concretely, within the common framework of the educational service of CERS, the long-term volunteer will promote and facilitate pedagogical activities about Europe, which are playful and fun (we host approx. 5000 young people per school year in situ).
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsThe volunteer will be accommodated in a residence/dorm, in Metz (about 200,000 inhabitants), at around 10km from the office of the CERS. The volunteer will have his/her own room, a kitchenette and bathroom and will regularly meet different people. It is highly important that the volunteer keeps it clean and in a good general state. The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance for buying food. It should not serve as a supplement to pocket money. A monthly bus travel card and a train travel card will be provided to the volunteer.
Training during the projectQuality is our main goal. To ensure it, the long-term project will include 4 training sessions: pre-departure training (sessions about intercultural competences and crisis management); on-arrival training (will last around 2 full weeks. The preparation aims at introducing the host city to the volunteer, preparing him/her for the activity period and the ESC experience); mid-term training; the annual European Solidarity Corps event.
Volunteer profileOur volunteering project is open to any young person aged between 18 and 30. In general, we are looking for a volunteer who shows a sense of initiative, who is interested in Europe and political education, who is creative, has inter-personal skills, is open-minded, sociable and flexible. We are also looking for somebody who is willing to do long-term volunteering. If the volunteer speaks french and/or german, this is a real asset.
