Activity descriptionAukštaitija National Park and Labanoras Regional Park were established to preserve and restore natural and cultural heritage of Aukštaitija ethnic region, as well as to organize a sustainable use of it’s resources, to spread environmental ideas and raise eco-awareness. Two activities are planned within a project: raising environmental awareness of the community and engaging community in the national park site and habitat management. They focus on environmental education and on involvement of community as volunteers to the site and habitat management in the park. Tasks related to it will be educational activities for schoolkids, for families and other social groups, guided nature tours and thematic events for anyone interested in it, presentations at schools and libraries about the park and its values, nature conservation, environmental issues, sustainable development, volunteering; meetings with a community, planning tasks for volunteer groups and organizing their work.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsVolunteers will be provided with an accommodation in Meironys. They will share a flat/apartment with a kitchen, shower, bathroom and separate room for each volunteer. The workplace is in the visitor center of the park in Palūšė, that is within walking distance and they will be also be provided with bikes. The travel costs from the home country to Lithuania at the beginning of the project and the way back at the end as well as all the work-related journeys and the expenses related to visas will be totally reimbursed. Participants will receive allowance including food allowance on monthly bases.
Training during the activityParticipants will attend on-arrival and mid-term trainings organized by the National Agency. During these trainings they will be introduced to the principals of non-formal learning, key competences and will learn about preparing personal development/learning plans. At the beginning of the activity participants will be registered for the online language course.
Participant profileYoung people between 18-30, who are passionate about nature or environment protection, are interested in site and habitat management, willing to share their passion and knowledge with others. It is important that they are aware of the many outdoor activities they will participate in and are okay with that. Skills and knowledge they will be able to gain during the project, but the inner motivation is crucial. Therefore, the selection of the participants will be made not accordingly to their professional experience or qualification but much attention will be given to motivation and interest.
