Activity description

Volunteering Matters Suffolk supports vulnerable people to access the local community in and around Ipswich. You will have the unique opportunity to contribute through supporting a variety of Volunteering Matters Suffolk projects based in Ipswich. You will volunteer remotely and face to face with drama sessions, online workshops, mentoring, coaching, Youth Social Action projects with a variety of groups such as young people, refugees and women’s group. There is scope to extend the length of time spent on some volunteering roles that are of particular interest to you.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

you will receive a subsistence allowance of £75 a week which will be paid directly into your UK bank account this covers food allowances. If you do not already have a UK bank account, you will be helped to set one up when you arrive for your placement.

Training during the activity

Your induction will include Health and Safety, equality, diversity, confidentiality, data protection and the Volunteer Handbook. The Volunteering Matters training covers modules on: volunteering roles, mentoring, safeguarding, learning disabilities, mental health first aid and lone working. The training aims to equip you with the right information and basic knowledge to deal with situations and any issues that may arise in the course of your volunteering. Your training at Volunteering Matters Suffolk will be ongoing with opportunities for other training.

Participant profile

Volunteers are not expected to have any prior skills or experience. However, you are expected to commit to the role and show dedication and a willingness to learn new skills. The role may vary considerably day-to-day as well as develop throughout the placement. These tasks are not exhaustive, however they should give you an idea of what to expect on this placement It is hoped that the volunteer will: • Be enthusiastic and committed to learning new things • Be professional, flexible and adaptable in your approach • Be pro-active, innovative
