Project descriptionGefangene helfen Jugendlichen e.V. is a recognized provider of child and youth welfare services based in Hamburg that offers violence and crime prevention projects for already delinquent or vulnerable young people between the ages of 10 and 21, which are carried out directly by (former) detainees. As a volunteer, you will be able to develop your skills in many different fields by assisting us in the planning, execution, and documentation of projects. You will have the task to support us in office management and to communicate with our member and customers. One important task will be helping with fundraising and supporting us in public relations.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsYou will be accommodated in a house in Bremen with two other EVS volunteers. Bremen is a city in North-West Germany (around 500.000 inhabitants), not far from Hamburg and the North Sea coast. Bremen is a vibrant, multi-cultural city with a lot of young people and both a historical center and newer areas of towns. You will receive a yearly ticket for the commute between Hamburg and Bremen. As a volunteer, you will receive health insurance, monthly pocket money, and money for food and other expenses. Travel costs will be reimbursed depending on the travel distance.
Training during the projectThe coordinating organization NaturKultur e.V will give two educations about working with different groups and also how to work in an international context. We, the hosting organization GHJ e.V., will show you how to work with our specific target groups and also show you how fundraising is being done in Germany. You will get also two seminars from the German National Agency (on arrival and midterm trainings).
Volunteer profileThe Volunteer should be able to communicate, write and understand the German language. Suggested minimum language level: B1. The position will focus on communicating with locals and our partners so good German skills are important for the success of the project. The volunteer should interested in social work (focus on child and youth welfare or aid to offenders), previous experience in this area is desirable, but not mandatory. IT skills are important since communication will be mostly online and the project reports and other relevant activities are also written on the computer. (Office)
