School makes joy - Private school "Vulkanschule" in Austria

Project description

The Vulkanschule is a primary and secondary school for pupils aged 6–14. It is a small school, with all together 47 pupils, situated in the countryside in South-Eastern Austria. The Vulkanschule is the only school following a reformist education in this region. We teach mainly according to Maria Montessori and Peter Petersen`s Jenaplan. One of our most important principles are: the non-violent communication, the respect for the development of the child, the respect for each human being and for the creation. Central ideas of our pedagogy are a holistic, project-oriented, interdisciplinary and mixed-age education, learner-centered, action-oriented and eager to keep up the joy of learning.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accomodation: The volunteer will either live in the capital Graz (www.graz.at) or will be accomodated with one of the school`s families. Food: The Volunteer receives a financial support from EU funds for € 250 every month for self supply and € 150 pocket money. Transport: If the Volunteer lives in Graz: By train from Graz to Feldbach, by schoolbus from the city Feldbach directly to the school. If the Volunteer lives in a host family: The Volunteer will be going by car with somebody of the host family to the school.

Training during the project

On Arrival Training - provided and funded by the Austrian National Agency. Mid Term Training - provided and funded by the Austrian National Agency. Language course as well as online linguistic support.

Volunteer profile

We are definitely looking for somebody interested in our form of holistic education and in working with children and teenagers, this person should get pleasure from working with children.The volunteer should be able to support lessons in the classroom of course under the teacher`s guidance. Also should the volunteer be able to do some easy cooking for lunch. A very important part is also producing materials for learning under guidance oft he teachers, We want a person with knowledge in german language. Also we are open for your own ideas and creativity.
