Project descriptionSSLD is a two month project that aims to help develop a small rural community of Latinovac, Croatia into a more sustainable, inclusive and youth attractive community. 12 selected volunteers will, alongside mentor, project coordinator and activity supervisors take part in permaculture education and practice (theory and discussions, gardening, natural building, DIY skills etc.), organising and conducting a Spring Festival, promotion of mobility and Solidarity Corps, intercultural exchange, and will help projects visibility in form of video and photo documentation, as well as social media. Volunteers are expected to be active 6 hours per day, 5 days a week. Working language is English, and you can expect loads of outdoor activities.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangementsVolunteers will be hosted by the local villagers in shared rooms, with beds, shower and washing machine provided. We will have a professional chef preparing three epic, tasty vegetarian meals on working days, and volunteers will have access to volunteer's kitchen. Pocket money will be paid to volunteers, as well as extra food money for non-working days. Locals produce milk, eggs and meat. We have our own gardens and orchards. Travel costs and health insurance are covered by the grant, and the total amount depends on the distance covered.
Training during the projectThis being short term project trainings will be in the form of practical workshops/lectures: Sustainablity - gardening, composting, cooking, natural building; practical skills - bike reparis, DIY workshops. Also, depending on the interest, basic Croatian lessons will be provided. Mentor support will be given throught the project and Youth Pass certificates will be issued for developed competencies.
Volunteer profileBasic English language skills. Love for outdoor; biking and/or hiking or nature in general. Flexible and responsible and a team player. Open minded and willing to enjoy new experiences be it composting or vegetariran cuisine. Polite, open in communication, tolerant and inclusive. Education and professional experience are not important as is individual motivation to contribute to the development of our community and group. It would be great if the candidate has previous volunteering experience, but it is not obligatory.
